Cash Gernon: Murder weapon possibly located after police find little boy dead in the street, covered in blood

Dallas authorities have found what could possibly be a murder weapon used in connection with the death of a 4-year-old boy.
According to CBS DFW, authorities searching inside the home of 4-year-old Cash Gernon found “a tissue paper in a bathroom that had blood drops on it. A small pocket knife was also located and seized.”
The discovery happened after Cash was found dead with multiple wounds, lying in the middle of a street in the Mountain Creek neighborhood of Dallas on May 15.
Police described the circumstances of the boy’s death as “unusual” and said that the boy died from violent injuries sustained from an “edged weapon.”
ABC 8 reports that the child’s caretaker, who was identified as Monica Sherrod (the girlfriend of the boy’s father), said Cash was a “happy-go-lucky” boy who had a twin brother.
Authorities on Saturday night arrested a man in connection with the boy’s death, identified as 18-year-old Darriynn Brown. He’s currently facing kidnapping and robbery charges, although authorities said charges will likely be upgraded after the official cause of death is released.
According to police, Brown lived around half a mile away from where the boy was found.
“Hard to believe. I don’t think he was in his right mind,” neighbor Jose Ramirez told ABC 8.
Neighbor Antwainese Square, 39, told Dallas Morning News that she was jogging when she discovered Cash’s body.
“I noticed the baby had ants at the bottom of his feet. So I knew he was deceased then,” Square said. “It was heart-wrenching because this baby could have been no more than 5.”
The boy’s face and upper part of his body were covered in blood, and he didn’t have a shirt or any shoes on.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, the boy’s father, who was not named, has not been in the home since March, police said, and they don’t know where he is.
The arrest affidavit did not describe Brown’s relationship with Cash or his family, and Sherrod told ABC 8 that Brown had no relationship with the boy. But Kameron Mori, 18 — who lives at the home where Cash lived — told ABC 8 he was Cash’s brother and that his other brother, a teen, had been friends with the suspect.
“That was my brother. I don’t care if nobody told me he wasn’t,” Mori said. “He was.”
“There’s not a reason for none of this. It’s not from revenge. Not from hate. Not from none of that. Nothing. To get back at us? Nothing.”
Brown’s mother, who identified herself as Mimi Brown, told the Morning News that her son had been home all weekend.
“I think that 4-year-old boy was killed at them people’s home and I believe someone had transportation, like a car or truck, and transported his body to the body site,” she said.
Neighbors, however, told CBD DFW that Brown was known as a troublemaker in the neighborhood.
“This guy here is on NextDoor where he’s busted into cars, ring doorbells, he threatened other people’s lives,” said neighbor Joe Bubel. “People are asking, why didn’t the police pursue that? That’s just his side of the story. I don’t know the other side of the story.”
Meanwhile, Cash’s twin brother, who was not named, was taken from Sherrod’s home by state authorities, she said. Dallas police said the boy was now with his biological mother, Melinda Seagroves, and grandmother, Connie Ward, who had been searching for the boys for some time.
Seagroves had believed the twins were with their father and had no idea he had left them with Sherrod. Authorities continue to search for the child’s father.

Father of Cash Gernon’s guardian says boy was raped, stabbed by Darriynn Brown
The father of a Dallas woman who cared for Cash Gernon and his twin brother says the boy was raped and stabbed by his abductor.
Darriynn Brown, 18, is accused of kidnapping 4-year-old Cash as the boy slept in a toddler bed with his twin brother, Carter, on May 15.
Police say Brown broke into a home through an unlocked garage door at 5 a.m. He is seen on surveillance video lingering over the bed for minutes before snatching Cash and running out of the house.
A woman jogging through the neighborhood at 6:40 a.m. spotted Cash lying in a pool of blood on a residential street and called 911.
Brown returned to the house 2 hours later to abduct Cash's brother, Carter, but he was spooked and fled without the boy.
Monica Sherrod, who was caring for the twins, told police their father left the boys at her Dallas home in March after they broke up.
She said Brown was a friend of her eldest son. However, the son told police he and Brown attended the same high school but they weren't friends.
Sherrod reportedly warned Brown, "Don't come around my kids" -- referring to her three teenage sons who lived in the home.
Sherrod waited until 11 a.m. Saturday to notify police that Cash was missing.
In a Facebook posts on May 16 and 17, Sherrod's father, Kurt Pinkerton, provided disturbing details about Cash's abduction and murder. He said Brown raped and stabbed Cash -- and the shocking crime was recorded on a friend's cellphone.
The friend, also 18, reportedly turned the cellphone recording over to police.
NOTE: the grandfather also stated that people were awake in the house when Darriynn Brown returned to allegedly take Carter, Cash's twin brother around 8:00 am (2 hours later), but the child was not reported missing until around 11:00 am, In the video you can hear Darriynn B talking after he goes to the crib to look at Carter, and you can hear someone in the kitchen talking to him. minutes later after DB walks out of the room toward the kitchen Carter wakes up and looks for his brother and calls for him. He walks toward the kitchen and comes back to look for Cash again
Initially Brown was charged with kidnapping and burglary -- but not rape or murder -- as police continue to review the disturbing evidence.
The twins' biological mother had been looking for her sons for an "extended period of time", according to police. She believed her sons were still with their father. The biological mom has been reunited with Cash's brother.

if he walks to the end of that little street toward the barn shed, and takes a right, and then an almost immediate left, past the camper, on the right, he would be heading back toward Monica's house. Or he could go in the other direction, make left at the end of the fence, than make a right a few houses down, and be on Florina Pkwy, the rd where Monica's house is a few houses from the corner.

DALLAS (AP) — A Texas man now faces a capital murder charge in the death of a 4-year-old boy who was found dead in a Dallas street last month.
Dallas police said late Wednesday that Darriynn Brown, 18, will face the new charge for the death of Cash Gernon. Brown already faced a kidnapping charge in the case after authorities said surveillance video showed a man lifting the sleeping child from his bed.
Police said forensic evidence linked Brown to the boy's killing but did not elaborate on what that was.
Brown remained jailed Thursday in Dallas on $1.6 million bail. His attorney, Heath Harris, told the Dallas Morning News that he was frustrated by the slow release of information from authorities about the case.
“It’s almost a month after this tragedy and I’m still waiting to prepare this kid’s defense,” he said. “We can’t do that till we have all the evidence.”
